ML350 Disc brakes - Should they score?

I have a 2003 ML350 with 10K on the clock. I looked at the disc brakes and noticed they all appeared scored to some degree or other - the front worse than the back. Is this normal? I thought that discs should be smooth and that it was the pads that wore down. There are no warning indicators to suggest any PAD wear and there is no squeaking.

Regards
