Sunroof Switch Problems

The standard Sunroof on my 2000 ML320 seems to have mind of it's own. Sometimes when it is partly open and I press the switch to open it more fully it closes instead !

Today when I went over a speed bump the sunroof opened itself to the full tilt position without me touching the switch.

It also appears top be a bit sticky i.e. takes many presses to get the sunroof moving

Is this a faulty switch or a timing issue ?

If I need a new switch are they easy to install myself ?

thanks

Doug

There is a publication on the BenzWorld site for installing illuminated door sills on the 98-99 MY that briefly describes removing the plastic around the sunroof switch.

As far as the source.......no idea. Sunroofs are a known problem, but usually it is warped rails or wind deflector problem.

Thnaks Rick,

I've got warped rails (the sunroof vibrates when opening (dealer says they can't fix) and a broken wind deflector arm.
Along with the U/S switch I think I've got the trifecta !

Sound like a bad sun roof switch.
