ML500 Mirror Trim Removal

Can anyone help me with a how to remove the trim from the base of the inside rearview mirror. Afraid to remove the mirror for fear of breaking the winshield. DTB says to remove the trim pieces first and then gives method for removing mirror without breaking windshield. But of course there is no instructions for how you get the trim apart.
