What a piece of crap! help!
this time it's a howling sound as you accelerate. very akin to the sound that was made when the power steering hose blew off (???). it's really loud and increases in pitch as you accelerate. it also gets worse as you steer- the harder you steer and accelerate together the worse the sound is? any ideas. oh, it also doesn't make this sound when it's first idling and cold??? how about bearings in a pulley near the power steering reservior?
thanks. |

One idea: Look at the various wheels attached to the engine belt. I had a similar problem that turned out to be the tensioner wheel bearings giving out. louder when accelerating cause the engine speeds up. Might even be the harmonic balancer problem showing up. The center part of the wheel looks like its falling apart and the wheel sort of wobbles. The squeal sound is very loud.

yeah, when the power steering clamp broke off ( they all do), i had to screw around with the power steering fluid on a daily basis until the pump got fixed. after rebuilding the pump, it still leaked fluid daily- all it turned out to be was a $2 gasket.

I hate to say it, but join the club. Im in the same boat.

Could be your carrier bearing.
Did all the How-To research and had "pickup the part" on the To-Do list until the bearing decided to toss in the towel at 70mph last week. NOT fun. The Benz's days are numbered.... FR |
now the dash lites are coming on- bas, esp, etc. etc., not all of them, but it seems to be shifting a little slow- why would it squeal when it accelerates and gets worse when you turn the steering wheel? doesn't do it when it's cold, weird, huh?
