HELP ML320 98 Engine making wierd Cracking & poping noise

Hey Guys I have a ML320 98 only like 62,000 miles on it lately I have been hearing a lot cracking noises from the engine and the motor oil light goes on and off. What can i do about it? I also have been noticing transmission slipage and a lot choking wen it automatically switch gears.
Squeaking nosie from the rear?
