ML320 Rear Sloshing Noise?
I have a 1999 ML320 with around 67,000 miles. The truck has been very reliable expect for the MB covered issues posted. Last week, however, I noticed a weird sloshing sound coming from the rear of the truck when traveling a slow speeds. The truck is running fine with no instrument warnings. I have an appointment scheduled with MB on Wednesday, June 8th.
Has anyone seen this same issue? Many thanks, John  |
Yes, we've seen that alot.
The water drain plugs for the roof get plugged with dirt and debris. Then water can't drain out it just builds up. Stick a screw driver up there and clean them out -but mind the water. It's gonna be stinky and gross. The drain plugs are in front of the rear wheels and behind the fronts wheels. They have rubber grommets about the size of a quarter in diameter. You'll 'em. |
Rear Noise
Well the problem is fixed.
The issue (rough ride and slouching sound) was caused by a worn out propeller shaft bearing. The dealer repair set me back $500. I was surprised to hear this part went after only 67k on the truck. To bad I didn't opt for the extended warranty. Now the 1999 ML320 rides like it did when I purchased it. According to the dealer, they do a few of these repairs a week. Watch out. Good news is the issue is fixed. Bad news is I just sold the ML to a relative and placed a down payment on a 2005 MDX. Dollar for dollar I couldn't beat it ($39,4000 for the MDX touring model with navigation, XM, Blue tooth, third roll seats, body molding, premier mat & wheel lock package). Thanks for all the years of excellent advice. If anyone else goes over to the dark side, you'll see my posts at: acuramdx.com. Thanks again! John |
