Key - ML320

Recently I've been experiencing problems starting my ML. I had the battery checked and it's OK. I took it to the MBZ dealer. After spending $890 replacing several sensors, the problem continues. Now they tell me the problem is with the "electronic" key. I was not aware the ML320 had an "electronic" key sensor (like my E320). They want an additonla $145 for a new key.

I am a bit suspicious. Your web site is God-sent. What can you tell me about their recommendation?

Thanks,
Jav

Yes, the keys on all 1997 & later MB's must send info back to the ignition switch AREA or the car/truck WON'T start!

FORD & GM also use simular systems as well as BMW!

finish my questions

Thank you for your response.
I went to pick-up my car this afternoon at the dealer and my ML would not start. The mechnkic claims he tested the 2nd key and it worked for him. Another advisor handled my situation this afternoon. He claims that the "no stasrt" problems, in his opinion, is not the key since the car tries to start, but won't turn over - it makes a clicking sound as a dead battery or starter problem.

Question:
Is the clicking sound consistent with a malfunction electronic key, or does a dead key make the same clicking sound?
Thanks,
Jav

ON ML's with key problems the starter will work for a second or 2 but then not function at all if the key isn't being recognized.
