My 2001 ML 320 odometer displays a wrench like image, then -3 and a "d"
Can anyone tell me what does it mean?

A negative number in that display idicates that you are past due for service. I'd bet 3 days late, but usually that is given in miles past instead of days. Your I/C version coding may need to be checked as well.
