A Friend of mine who works at a stereo shop has a brand new G500 Coming in for a complete system, speakers, cd changer, head unit, amps, the works. He needs to know how to dismantle the interior so he can run wires for the speakers and the amps, and how he can get the panels off so he can do the speakers, and also how to put it all back together.

He does not want to mess up anything on this beautiful truck, which he wants so bad.

So if you guys have diagrams, or can list instructions on how to do it.

Alon

I need an answer by monday at the latest. Thanks in advance for your help.

Well..... I have done it twice now so I guess I am as close to an expert as you will find. It should be identical to my 320 and that installation is fairly fresh in my mind. Fortunately the G is a very modular vehicle, it is really pretty easy to get apart.

The first thing you want to do is remove the front seats, there are four bolts in the storage compartment under each seat, very simple. Remove the bolts and slide the seat towards the door a bit. This will give better access to wiring for the seat controls and heaters. These are typical automotive type connectors.

The carpet fortunately is not one big molded piece, it overlaps in sheets so it is easy to remove or what I have done is simply push the wiring through without removing the whole carpet.

I installed my amp, one big Infinity, under the rear seat in the large compartment. I ran the patch cords from the deck out the drivers side of the console and along the transmission tunnel under the carpet into the empty bin under the seat. No cutting required.

I ran the power cable through the main electrical access on the pass side firewall.

I removed the weatherstripping around the doors to remove the trim panel on the pillar between the doors so I could run speaker wire through the factory flex tube connecting the door to the pillar.

Front speakers are in the kick panels in the footwell. There is a smaller set in the dash. The defroster vent trim pops right out, two parts right and left halves. The grilles are screwed to this trim, you must carefully remove it to get at the screw to remove the grille.

I could go on and on. It took me 10 hrs to install my stereo and this was my second time on a G. Basically they are very easy to work on. You will find space at a premium though. That is why I chose to go with one amp.

This is a rundown of my system...

Blaupunkt Munchen deck
Infinity 4.0cs componet speakers in front. I fabricated mounts for the tweeters in the dash. They protrude a little so I trimmed the grilles to let the new speaker stick out a bit, looks factory. The crossovers fit in the empty space in the dash and the 4" fits in the stock location with just a little grille trimming. The rear doors (not the back door) had 5.25s, I went with 6.5 Infinity Kappas, no trimming was needed. Be aware that the doors are sealed up pretty good with heavy poly but the panels come off pretty easy. There is a bolt for the front and rear armrests behind the wood trim at the top of the rest. Use caution, the wood just pops off but the fasteners were very brittle on mine. I went with an Infinity 5 channel amp, it has level controls, bass boost and a few crossovers for the different channels. Then I put an 8" Bazooka sub right behind the seat and painted it to match the interior color. I left the drivers seat storage bin empty to add a changer later. After the requiset tuning this system blows away the 14 spkr factory system in my wifes 750iL. The 7 series systems have been judged to be second only to Lexus for quality. So I am EXTREMELY happy with my tunes.

If you have any specific questions I would be happy to help. Email me at brent@wadena.net
