Unimog?

i was wondering how reliable unimog 404s are and how hard they are to work on and if parts are readily available. i've been looking for one for a while now, but i'm unsure as to the overall practicalness of it all. thanks a lot.

Howdy ayrtonsenna,
One that has been maintained will be reliable. Easy to work on, but you are dealing with big parts some of which have been on the truck for a long time. Most parts you can get from one of the number of dealers.like Michael Smith of United Parts Service. They are practical if you use it for long term camping or expedition travel. Try this website for more info.

I've never seen one in person

I've never seen one in person, but they're cool looking. I think I've only seen Umimogs in movies.
Are these trucks available in the Washington, DC area? They look like fun. I'm guessing they are a lot more down to earth than MB cars. No frills, just solid engineering and construction? I'd l ike a vehicle like that.

Howdy Dee8go,
Go to the website I put in my first post. You will find dealers in there. I think Rhode Island Unimogs is still going. There might have been a name change. The newer Mogs like the U500 can challenge the s class for amenities. Plus you can slide the controls back n forth depending if you want left or right hand drive.

Didn't see any close by

Didn't see anyone close to me selling them, but I'll look some more. Your description sounds impressive. I'd love to drive one sometime.

I saw one in Austria a few years ago and thought "too bad I can't get one of those in USA" then I saw one on ebay a month ago and went crazy. I'm trading my Jeep for one
