ml 320 fuel filter mod

I've received the new fuel filter for my 98 ml 320. When I started to remove the existing parts it was observed the old filter is the original style and not the updated one. Prior to ordering it I took a peek at the hoses/clips to make sure they were the updated ones and they looked like the ones in the photos. I assumed the conversion was made. Well it wasn't.

So now, how/where can I get this special tool to remove the hoses? Can I reuse the existing hoses?

ML 320 fuel filter mod

Carson,

I sort of paniced, so I called an import shop and the mngr wants my business so he played dumb like if he can't see it. I then called the nearest dealer, and the tech there was real helpful. They had the three hoses in stock so my wife picked them up to the tune of $101.07. So, $57 for the filter and $101.07 for the hoses, still came out ahead by about $200-$300.

Fingers are a little raw from getting the old hoses off, lots of time and patience.

So, we'll see if this solves the stalling problem.

new fuel pump/new filter

Okay,

My 98 ML 320 starts up easier now that I've just replaced the fuel filter, but there's the hard start at first. It starts right up after driven, but it's random. Afraid to go on any lengthy trips. Also changed the fuel pump back in the beginning of August. Had advice from this forum to start at the CPS. Went with the mechanics advice to do the fuel pump cause the pressure was low. Had the same hard start no start problem shortly thereafter. Then changed the fuel filter because of the built in regulator. [I]So now I'll just go and change the CPS, I guess the easiest part for last I'm very curious if this type of process of elimination is always in store? Is there anything else? Am I making headway? [I] I'm begining to wonder if I should have bought that Volvo XC instead!!! In the 17 years of having volvos I never had this or been stranded. Once in 89 had a bad grounding strap!!

Don't get me wrong I love the vehicle, it drives, feels, and looks like it's three years old. I got it for my family's safety and reliability/durability. But, the little nickel and dime stuff is pooping up now. I hope there are no more large obstacles as the fuel issues.
