ML keeps dying, then no start but cranks
 

Hi,

I have a '99 ML 320. Yesterday, the engine died while waiting for a red light. It started after a minute or two.
Today, it did not start in the morning, the engine cranked. Then it started and died after left idling. Then impossible to start again. Is it the faulty crankshaft position sensor? Where is it located.
Or is it uel related, like fuel filter or pump. The truck was upgraded to a new style fuel filter 3 years ago?

I had a similar issue with my 00 ML55 and it was a nighmare to fix. they say the first thing to check is the crankshaft pos. sensor, then the MAF. After 3 months of headache my issue ended up being the ignition control module.

I also had a similar problem with my ml2000 last month, it was the crankshaft pos. sensor, 200.00 for the part and 200.00 for the labor at the dealership. But it fixed the problem.

You can remove the CPS, and heat it up with a heat gun or hair dryer, when hooked up to a volt meter, if you get an open circuit, then it is bad.

CPS sensors are pretty cheap, about $100 or less through this website. Takes about 20 minutes to replace, but they are hard to see.
