My G230 is a little low on power and I'm studying all the gear change possibilities, but can anyone tell me if the current kompressor 230 motor as installed on the C230 is a match for the mounts on the G?
Would this be a simple swap? If so, I might keep my eyes out for a freshly wrecked C230 kompressor car to grab an engine. |

I think that the mounts would be the very least of your difficulties, not to mention mounting the engine to the transmission. I think that the biggest headache for you would be all the electronic controls, sensors, microprocessors, etc. that must accompany the Kompressor engines to keep them running and NOT blowing themselves up. There are probably changes in the fuel system as well (tank pumps, etc.) that are also required. I think that it would take a master technician with a thorough knowledge of the current Kompressor engine, plus a lot of money, to install this. |
engine swaps
Scott,
the 230 kompressor will be close to impossible without major modification. It's powerband is also not appropriate, all though most likely better than the 230 motor. Best to start by switching to the 6.17:1 ring and pinion gears for the diffs. For motors, it's best to either go with a G engine and transmission, or a 380 V8 from the early SEL from same years as your G. The 500 will also fit, from mid eighties, but the 380 is a lighter block. Either way, both are a bit too heavy in my mind for boulder trails, but for baja, they'd be a great swap. OTherwise, turbo diesel is best in my choice, except in the cold winter when you'll need to mix in Kerosine. mserpe@yahoo.com |
