Hello to all! I'm new on here, but need alot of help if someone has suffered through the same issues I've had with my ML430. The first problem I have is a popping noise that seems to be coming from the drivers side, perhaps underneath, I'm not really sure. Then just the other day, I had 2 lights come on, one is a (BAS ESP) light, the other one is a (ETS) light. Both of these have somthing to do with the braking system. I've looked at the brakes, they seem to be in fine shape. Also, when these lights came on, I noticed that my overhead fuel mileage indicator was no longer functioning.
I called the local MB dealership, which is 60 miles away, only to be told I would be put on a waiting list, which is now at 2 weeks. I want to know if this vehicle is safe to drive, I can't go 2 weeks without it. If someone knows anything about this, please help. |

Popping noise, front or rear would help to know rather than which side. What year is it?
The warning lights are probably caused (no real guearantee of course) by a bad brake light switch. IF your brake lights are operating OK (please check!) then it should be safe to drive. Gilly

Thanks Gilly for the info. The year of my ML430 is a 1999 Model. I think the noise is coming from the back, not the front. It does it when I slow down to turn, like at a stoplight, and also when I put it into gear. I got out and made sure that the brake lights do work, they do. Could this also cause the mileage and fuel indicator, the one located in the overhead console to not function?

Not to function at all, or just not lighting?

It's showing nothing Gilly. No light, nothing. I went to another Tech support forum and someone suggested a faulty brake pedal switch was the problem. I took it off, messed with the switch, took it apart, and then put it back on. The (BAS ESP) and (ETS) went off, so maybe that cured that. My cruise control now works to, I forgot to mention that it had quit to. Now if I can figure out the popping noise and the gas mileage computer thing, I will be doing good. Thanks again for the help.

Did the trip computer work at one time? Not sure how long you've owned it....
