ML Seat Heater question

One of friends who owns a 2002 ML320 just had a major problem with their seat heater. The heater was getting so hot it started melting away the leather/carpet on the bottom of the backrest. They took it to the dealership and were charged $1000 to get it fixed. For the past few weeks,I have been noticing that my seat heater was getting very hot (2003 ML500) and I thought nothing of it.Is there anything I can do to fix this problem without spending the $1000,anyone else experience this?
-Thanks

I believe there is a TSB for it and it is likely covered by MB.

I dont know about it being covered- you may be able to get them to goodwill it for you since its a common thing.

Is it getting hot at the back of the left driver seat bottom?

My ML just came out of warranty about a 1,000 miles ago.The seat heater makes it HOT right at the connection of the back and bottom part of the seats.
