ML Brake Rotor Replacement

I've read the threads about this including the write up by Pete Fagerlin that is referenced but I still have a question - regarding the "slugs" (roll pins) Pete refers to that in his case had to be hammered out to remove the rotor:

If I have to do this, do you hammer towards the car? it looks that way from the pic.

Either way, do these roll pins get replaced with new, or are they usually in tact after hammering?

PS - I have the stock rotors here now, and didn't notice any additional parts.

the roll pins don't need to be hammered out, Pete also mentioned this in his write up. once you take the hex bolt that is holding the rotor, the rotor should come right out, if not, use a rubber mallot and give it a few firm smacks.
