Good price?

Does $36K for a 2002 G500 with 60,000 miles on it sound reasonable to you guys? I just looked at one on the car lot next to my office. It's very clean-looking and has all the bells and whistles as far as I can tell.
Thanks.

I don't know about the price, but I can offer one bit of advice. Make sure to get as much "seat time" as possible before you buy it!!! IMHO, driving a G-Wagen is not quite the MB experience most people would expect. The ride quality is what you'd expect from a vehicle that has serious off-road capability, it's rough. The steering requires a lot of effort, so you can forget about steering with one finger in the spokes. They're also inherently noisy, and the doors are hard to close. They borrow many systems from the 203 C-class (climate control, sound system, etc.) as well.

Believe it or not though, the thing I dislike most is driving these things at night. The side windows, rear window, and the windshield are all flat, no curve whatsoever. They might as well have used mirrors instead. Seeing the reflection of every headlight moving in every direction is very distracting to me.

Any way, I guess they look cool, and the G55 sounds great wide open.:D

It actually sounds a bit high.

The 2002's and early 2003's were very prone to electrical and electronics problems. Be sure to see the complete service history to give you an idea of what this one has been like.

I would not buy one without it being Certified - or whatever MB calls their checked out and guaranteed used vehicles.

Ditto on the ride comment from the other poster. It is not the typical MBUSA ride. It is very much a truck! I've owned, driven and serviced a G since 1984; and it is an acquired "taste".

Thanks for your comments. Yeah, I think I have enough expensive tastes without aquiring anymore right now.

It is pretty cool-looking, though.

...and consider it's off-road capabilities, it's amazing that celebrities who buy them pimp them out with oversized rims, thus adding to the teeth-chattering ride! :dizzy2:

Yeah, that is pretty funny. They put wheels and tires on that essentially undo the basic function of the vehicle. Maybe Mercedes should have a model called the CSG500. This would be the pimped-out, City Slicker G500.
