Leaking Front Differential Input Seal
I have a very small leak of diff fluid from the front diff input seal. Anyone know how "involved" this repair will be? Fluid on the garage floor is about the size of a dime each morning. I checked the fluid in diff and it seems ok (not low).
02 320 w/ 72000 miles. I replaced Diff fluid f&r at 60,000 as indicated. I'm more nervous about the dealer screwing something ELSE up while fixing this than the actual repair! I took it to a reputable indy and he lacked the special tool needed to perform the fix and said he had never seen this leak on an ML before. __________________ 02 ML320 Sport |

Mine was done at about 72K miles. No big deal. The parts is about $32, and about 1.5 hrs labor. They charged me about $175.

When I bought my 98 ML320, with about 122K on it, the front differential was nearly EMPTY!. The previous single lady owner had it serviced regularily at MB dealers in Phoenix and Tuscon. BOTH shops had negelected to check this important fluid level, even with evidence of seal leaking all over front crossmember! This still is a slow leak and would take about 40K to lower the level that much, based on my frequent checks.
If you have one, you better check it 'cause this leak is more common than you would think. Regards, Jim in Phoenix 98 ML320, 147K 79 300SD, 264K Quote:
