overhead trip computer dead

Hey, a while back the trip computer just went blank no light or nothing. I was trying to find a fuse for it with no luck. Does anyone know how to take this one off and how much a new one is. Also is there a chance of fixing this one. I reallized that the lights have to come off and after that I got stuck, I am afraid to brake something. If anyone has any info on this please reply, it will be much appriciated. thanks in advance

My 01 ML430 trip computer light is out too. Called the dealer and they wanted $226 dollars. That's just for the part. Installation is extra.

The backlight is soldered on surface mounted incandescent bulbs (what a really dumb idea)-:
I've heard of people taking it apart and soldering LEDs as replacements, but I'm not sure how to take it apart and get to the bulbs...

Yeah, I have seen one on e-bay too, I don't know why I am waiting to buy one. I would say that was a great deal for it. I still have not had time to try taking mine off. I am going to take mine off this weekend definitly. Is there a way to test it or the voltage to it?

Not sure on how to test. Let me know how the install went. I'm really thinking about doing mine too.

trip computer

I had the same issue with mine and was trying to find a cheap unit on ebay, unitl one day I decided to replace all the fuses that could be related to it. I think I replaced about 3 and one of them helped, it came back ON and I could not believe it.

Try it, its worth a shot. I was very suprized and since then I never just look at the fuse anymore I replace them and if it doesn't help I have a spare.

I really hesitated to write about this b/c many people wont buy it, but here it is, try it if you want.
