ML320 1999 - Stalls

OK, I'm driving from Houston to Key West on vacation. While in Orlando, I am perturbed at the "different" driving styles of the Floridians and while attemping to go around someone I stomp on the gas pedal. The truck then quickly shuts down (not off) and what seems to be a power failure leaves me unable to accelerate and I am left having to limp for a minute and the yellow check engine light comes one.

From that point on, the truck will stall out when I come to a stop. It will sometimes putter and eventually die. However, I am easily able to restart the truck immediatley . . . usually throwing it into neutral and restarting on the fly. As a fix, I can keep my foot on the gas and brake while keeping my RPMs up and the truck won't stall. It does NOT have a problem idling and sometimes allows me to come to a stop and take off with no problem. When it does act up, 80% of the time at a stop sign/light, and after I restart , it kinds of cuts in and out while I am accelerating to above 15 MPH ...and then there are no problems.

Is this a sensor or spark plug issue. Truck runs synthetic, is maintenance properly and has 130k miles. I have since put 700 miles on the car coming back home and it has not gotten any better or worse. Starts, idles, drives perfect. Just bad when taking off and coming to a stop or coming to an idle from a faster speed.

Thanks in advance.

Todd
