"AIR BAG OFF" and "SRS" lights on.
 
2002 ml320
What is the most likely thing that may be wrong with each?
I need to know where to start looking for the problems.

Could be a faulty child seat sensor in the passenger seat. At least it was in mine. Mine was replaced while under factory warranty. My 2 cents.

To find a problem like that a scanner is required to access that system.

The seat recognition sensor is a good bet.
