On the bottom right side of the radiator there is a hose that is attached with a clamp. On your model year there was actually a campaign to replace that clamp. What it does is connect the power steering hose to the radiator. Sometimes the clamp expands and when you start the car the pressure blows the hose off the male end of the connection on the radiator. If the clamp is still there you can reattach it (I believe you need an 8mm socket) for the time being, but you will need to replace it. You can go to a dealership or to a parts store. The clamp will run you maybe $5 if you prefer to do it yourself.

Talking There are two power steering hoses to the radiator

Both of the PS hoses that go to the radiator must be firmly attached; otherwise PS fluid will leak out and you will ruin your PS unit if that is not corrected. Attached these hoses firmly with new clamps or tighten the old ones to insure no leaks exist and then fill the PS unit with PS fluid. If it still makes noise, put more PS fluid in until it stops. BC

The original lower hose is too short. if it has blown off or is starting to pull away from the fitting on the radiator (regardless of how tight the clamp is) go to any dealer and they will replace it for free with a slightly longer hose. All ML's 98-03 are covered for 10 years, unlimited mileage for this problem.

Recall

The recall at the dealer only changed the clamp, now busted and replaced once more, but i never knew of the longer hose option,i take it its the low pressure hose.
