Unhappy 1999 ML430 leaks inside near parking brake.

I got in the car yesterday and the floor was soaking wet, like puddled and sopping! It was raining, but I hadn't driven the car at all so it's not from below. I noticed a little drip right where the parking break comes down, and felt up in that area and there is some wet insulation type material up there.

My question is WTH is that from? I have a couple of different mechanics, and a warranty, so I want to make sure I take it to the right place, and (fingers crossed) it will be covered by warranty.

Anyone ever experienced this type of leak? Is it from the rain outside, or some system (power steering, a/c, etc.) leak. I know VERY little about cars, as evident from some of my last posts, and this is my first car in 8 years (I lived in NYC so I didn't need one!) Argh!
