2000 ml320
Looking for a little help please ................. my 2000 ML320 is stalling sometimes , there was a couple of times with in the last year that the car didn't start , after 5 to 20 minutes it started , I always thought that I was hitting the gas pedal and flooding it , this happened about 6 to 8 times in the last 6 months , ....... within the last couple of weeks the water pump went , I took it to the local shop and they installed a new water pump for me , a few days later I started having the starting problem (( It would just turn and turn like it wanted to start but didn't )), one day I was in the middle of the road and it just stalled , I tried starting it and nothing , I thought maybe my car was low on gas , but it read 70 miles left , after about 20 minutes ,someone helped me with some gas , I went and filled the gas tank up and started to go home , once again it stalled on me , I waited about 20 minutes and it started back up and I made it home , the car sat for a few days in my driveway , and yesterday I tried taking it for a drive , it started right up , I got on the highway , got off the exit , came to a red light , stopped at the light, and the car stalled on me , I tried starting it about 5 times in 20 minutes and it didn't start , after another 5 minutes it finally started , I drove it all the way home without ever letting up on the gas , even when I had to stop I put it in netual , and I made it home , .................does anyone have any idea's ???? I did notice that on the speedometer , it had a wrench with a -300 in it , ((sometimes it appeared there )), does that mean something ???? is it a code of somekind ?? , did the guy who put the water pump in do something wrong ?? could it be a clogged fuel line ??, should I try some of that fuel injecter cleaners when filling the tank ?? could it be the fuel pump ??
Thank you for all who reply |
Stalling and re-starting after a cool off period sounds like the classic CPS fault.
|
Whats the CPS fault ??
whats the CPS fault and is it expensive ?? Thanks

CPS is the crankshaft position sensor. Its a common failure on the 112/113 engines and exhibits the exact symptoms you describe.
under $100 for the parts, Medium difficulty DIY job and a E8 Socket is required. http://www.***************/search/product.aspx?sid=szlphp553qzvov45zhcjyw3h&makeid=800016@Mercedes&modelid=1363890@ML320&year=2000&cid =sensor@sensor&gid=7196@Crankshaft%20Position%20Sensor |
and the wrench with the -300 means you're 300 miles overdue for an A-service :)
|
A new CPS costs about $75 or so from ********az. There a couple of different ways to change it. I have seen them posted on benzworld. I would do a search of this forum and of the other one as well.

Thanks John Hef......................and the wrench with the -300 means you're 300 miles overdue for an A-service

Just the minor one. Change the oil, top off fluids, check/lube a bunch of stuff and thats it.
|
Once you do the oil change etc remember to reset your FSS. Instructions are in the owners manual.

my 00ml320 stalled on the road last sunday night. tried re-starting and the engine cranked-over a long time and still did not start. when tow driver asked me to start it, it started w/ check engine light(mil) on. less than a minute after starting, stalled again.
towed it home and started on the driveway & able to park inside the garage. would like to get your advice(s) first before the next move. if i can fix it myself, i'd love to. thanks in anticipation for your reply. driving my 190e for now. fimautohobby |
