2008 ml 350 seat vibration

i have a 08 ml 350 with 1800 miles on it, at the red light i could feel the wheel and the seat vibrate, somtimes heavily. i put it in neutral but it only helps a little. my dad has a 02 lexus rx 300 with 50000 miles and you could not feel it at all. i also have a 01 mitsu eclipse with 90000 miles on it and i could feel it vibrate a little. i have been to the dealership 2 times and they said everything is fine, i don't want to go back without any new info

Could be a motor or trans mount, a tech who's paying attenion ought to be able to rule that out pretty easily.

You could use a floor jack and big rubber bushing and lift the engine 1/4" (no more) at the oil pan and rule it out yourself.

Agree, seat vibrations are usually bad engine or transmission mounts. In such a low mileage vehicle I would assume one mount just failed prematurely.

Force the dealer to check all engine and transmission mounts in front of you, they usually are very lazy to do it and just tell you everything is fine.

I doubt a mount would be bad at that mileage. We see very few mount problems anymore on late models.

It sounds to me like a misfire event. Tell them to run a smoothness test (and print it) and if they say its OK verify the running against a new one in their stock.

I'm curious which dealership your using.

Can you, please, explain what is the "smoothness test"? I have been feeling vibration in my 07 GL's steering wheel/grab bars/area around COMAND, etc. But, of course, dealer says cannot duplicate. So would like to sound more intelligent before I go back. Thanks in advance.

The local dealer had a very peculiar event on a W211:

The brand new car presented a general vibration when driven (not only the seats). They performed every imaginable test to see what was the culprit.

Finally, after all tests showed OK, they decided to remove all interior panels.

They found out that the B-pillar on the left side (between the driver and rear doors) did not have a single weld point (was completely loose and unattached from the roof).

So, I would definitely not dismiss a failed or not properly mounted engine or transmission mount (if a B-pillar can come out of the factory like that).

There has been a bulletin on seat noises & vibrations on the later W164's..let me know if you need a copy or reference number.
