MB 2nd Power Steering recall W163
 

MB has yet to announce a 2nd power steering hose recall on the 1998-2003 ML's.
But NHTSA has issued that fact to MB that those trucks were possibly not repaired properly the 1st time!

MBUSA will announce that fact in October!

Any news?

Are the new longer hoses still coming off or something? I've never seen any of the replacements fail as of yet.

What was the problem in the first place?

MB made the 2nd recall official today! still using the OLD campaign number

number 2003040005...

Recall is for replacement of power steering return hoses & clamps....special parts KIT!

ML power steering groan - correlation to hose recall?
 

Thanks for the heads up MB Doc.

Wife's '02 ML320 78k - out of nowhere in past week has developed a pretty good 1st thing in a.m. power steering groan. It's audible / feelable on some days for a few minutes / miles.

Checked level, just barely misses the bottom of the stick otherwise it's pretty full. Def. seems to be related to the recent cold snap here - 20's night / 34 day. Too early for February!

Question: does the hose recall have anything to do with the possibly? Or if not might this be a good chance to correlate it being addressed by them on 'their behalf'? No visible leaks, just came up when the cold hit.

Mines done, simple fix, just took an hour or so.

Does this recall just apply to the bottom hose???
I was charged for the upper hose that leaked also.
Wondering if I got hosed?

Will look in to this Recall, just replaced the wheels & tires from a 2001 ML 320 also had the nav/radio replaced from an 2001 ML. (now for the code) Code done thank you ebay

I was unaware of the first recall. My power steering system has been leaking for a couple of years now. I add more oil every time it starts groaning at me.

When was the first recall? I seem to have missed it.

My 2005 ML350 has developed hard steering when cold and sometimes when making quick turn at slow speed. Any one out there experiencing/experienced some problem? Thanks!:rolleyes:

Always start with a new filter (reservoir) & fresh fluid.

my truck that power steering was leaking.

I bought my 98 ML 320 in 2004, how can I find out if my p/s unit was serviced for the one or two recalls?
