Got my new ML sunroof air deflector.
Deflector showed up at my door yesterday. Took about 15 minutes to install. Tried it out this morning on the highway, and the deafening noise level I was used to hearing with the sunroof completely open had gone down to a whisper!!
Cost me $35 at www.************************. I now can really enjoy open sunroof driving in the ML (especially since the temps in Texas are down from the earlier nuclear meltdown levels). Ya gotta get one of these!!!:D |
Does installing the sunroof deflector have any side effects to the sunroof when it's closed? I've heard some people say they have experienced some problems in the past but can't remember what the problems are right now.

Good point, Lebenz!
That rubber seal is pretty tight, so I could see how it would become a bucket if washing the roof with the front of the SUV parked downwards. As far as the mounting clips (2), they stay clear away from the factory spring-loaded wing that pops up when the sunroof slides open. The install instructions clearly states to check the operation of the sunroof to make sure that the wing comes back down when the sunroof closes, or damage will result. |

I just opened my roof for the first time today(FL) and I noticed the rubber accordian style thingy is not attached on the right side. Is there a trick to hooking it back up? Gonna get me one of those deflectors too as soon as I get my new ML catalog. The wind noise on that truck is atrocious.

No trick to reinstalling those accordion-style thingys...they seem to fall off when the truck is new???
Both of mine were hanging off (one worse than the other) and I noticed them while waiting for my wife at a grocery store parking lot. So it took me about ten minutes to reinstall. Done by the time my wife arrived. I have pudgy fingers, but I could still work the rubber between the slat and the glass on the sunroof. Your "re-install" should hold better than original, since I don't think they shoved them in very much at the factory. |

:( Just went to them and they did not list it. I will try and call them to see what is up. What do you think about the rear wind(dust) deflector?

Get them to send you a catalog...their website doesn't have their complete inventory. And like most companies, if you order one thing, you can bet they will send you catalogs for the rest of your life!!! (Why I had to order from Lillian Vernon, I'll never know).
I am floored by the amount of dust that accumulates on the rear hatch, and I know it's due to the lack of a spoiler. My Honda Passport had a factory one, and it was considerably less dusty. Thinking about getting one if I decide to keep the ML long-term. Course, I gotta get it painted, and I would not trust myself to install it properly, yada yada, more $$$. It's WAAAY down the list of goodies. If I recall, you have a '99, so you won't have any install problems...the antenna for the navigation system precludes installing one on the later MLs. BTW, they also sell a cool ML shift console trim...looks like something you'd see on an ML55... |
