Help on changing rear axle bearing on 1998 ML320
I need to change out the driver side rear axle bearing on my 1998 ML320. Could anybody help me find a link for instruction and help with this??? I would be most grateful.

I took off the tire
then the brake caliper then I broke the 26mm nut off the center shaft that is holding rotor to what I think you might call the spline at the end of the shaft. Is there a special way to remove the rotor from the shaft. It has one bolt through the rotor stopping the rotor from flexing on the springs. |
Here is what I did. As it would take to long to get the special bearing puller I needed. I took off all the knuckle bolts and Sway bar connection. Removed the E-brakes and connector and all associated wiring and sensors. Took the whole hub to an auto shop and had then press it out and put the new one in. I tell you this, I went to over 4 different shops until I found a person who would willing to do it.

should have taken it to the dealership.. I took my w123's left front knuckle to get a ball joint pressed in.. $30 and it was done.

local dealership is 2 to 3 hours away. I think a front hub and a rear hub might have some differences as to how to replace the bearing, or at least how to get at it
