DTCs found on a 2008 Sprinter - Meaning sought

Greetings,

I'm seeking the meaning of DTC P0404 and P040B.

The engine: OM642.993
The vehicle: 2008 Sprinter 3500
Vehicle Country: USA
Engine Control Module (Daimler) part info:
ECM 0024468640 07.24.00 06.31 4A9D

Background:

A Dodge dealership that services Sprinters will likely use one of the following scan tools: StarSCAN, StarMOBILE or WiTECH.

I own a StarMOBILE tool kit.

Recently, a friend contacted me.

He owns the aforementioned Sprinter.

His check engine light was on. He wanted to know the codes before taking it to a dealership. SOP for a dealership is to clear the codes and hope the problem doesn't resurface.

I used my StarMOBLE to view all the DTCs. I understand most of them. Most of them are documented. Two of them I do not recognize and they are not documented by Chrysler.

I'm trying to find out what P040B and P0404 mean.

Technical information for Sprinters in the US is not found on WIS (or at least I couldn't find any info).

Technical information on US Sprinters is found on Techauthority.com.

P0404 and P040B are error codes which are not on the Service Manual CD.

They are not at Techauthority.

StarMOBILE doesn't seem to have any internal information describing the codes (note that in the attached picture and the attached vehicle scan report, the codes are listed as "unknown").

My question: Does any MB USA, LLC (OM642-running) product throw such a code like P040B or P0404?

If so, what do they mean?

His vehicle is subject to the Dodge Sprinter recall action: H44, but I do not know that these codes are EGR related.

I'm trying to confirm it's EGR related or otherwise.

This is for my own personal knowledge. I'm not trying to save the world or even save a Sprinter. I'm just trying to learn.

I am attaching a screen shot from StarMOBILE desktop client ( a microsoft windows program that works in conjunction with a scan tool from BrightStar Engineering in Boston MA). StarMOBILE is a toy compared to MB scan tools, but it is an official tool for servicing Sprinters, and the only one I can afford.

If you're a tech and recogonize P0404 or P040B codes as they relate to OM642 engines, please tell me what they mean.

Vehicle scan report from the scan tool.

Since Dodge resources can't manage to document some of their error codes, I'm hoping that they are recogonized by an MB expert.

Can someone help me interpret P0404 and P040B?

-Jon

P0 404 is in the area of EGR system issues on a generic scanner.

So is it fair to say that Daimler used the "generic/universal DTCs" on the OM642.993 with regards to EGR temp sensor issues (P040B - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Temperature Sensor “A” Circuit Range/Performance ) and P0404 (Exhaust Gas Recirculation Control Circuit Range/Performance)?

I think that with respect to emissions control items, it's REQUIRED that all manufacturers use the same codes. The rest of the stuff of course not, although I'd be mildly surprised if Sprinter was same as all Mercedes and that all Mercedes are same.
