01 ML320 tune up

Hello, I'm about to do a tune-up on '01 ML320 for the first time. Can anyone quickly describe the procedure? Does this motor use 6 spark plugs, or 12? I am familiar with these newfangled "coil packs" as my '02 Carrera uses them also.

Thank you

each cylinder has 2 spark plugs.
Most likely you will need to the replace the wires as well.

Spark plugs should be replaced every 5 years OR 100K miles which ever happens 1st.

I found it easier than some of these entries lead you to believe. I did the plugs only in about 1.5 hours. Its 12 plugs, some of the coil packs need to be removed (its obvious) I did not need to remove any fender components as stated in some threads. Some of the plugs were a bit tighter than I expected but came out with a little work. Make sure you have a good plug socket with the rubber plug holder inside as some of these are done by feel more than sight.

I did mine at 102K and like the Doc says I should have done wires as well, I'll wait another 10K. I also did the fuel filter and cleaned the throttle body, big difference in gas mileage and performance, the electrodes were worn down to nothing!

Read the other posts on this and good luck.

Thanks for the tips, I'm going to order the plugs and wires and DIY.

The Dealer is saying the car is due for "Service B". Does anyone know what this Service B consists of?

Thanks again

Excellent, thanks MB DOC. I think I'll DIY this one.
