Used Sprinter Selection

Looking into buying a used Sprinter for our service truck. No need for dual wheel set-up, where as we normally do not carry heavy gear, but would tow a medium size trailer from time to time.

What kind of high milage can one expect before major issues?
What type of heart burn issues are they plaqued with (if any)?
What year/model to stay away from?
What would be the preferred year of choice?

Any in put from the group would greatly help.

Thanks,

LC

Thanks

I had a 05 longest wheelbase 2500 . . . I used it on my FedEx Home delivery route, put a hard 47K mi on it in 7 months, running alot of back roads atleast 25% dirt/mud . . .

Front brakes lasted 20-25K . . . front wheel bearings were trashed before 40K . . .

I did drive this hard!

My personal opinion of the Sprinters is kinda mixed. The are somewhat underpowered/undertorqued for the potential weight they carry. If you are using it for a service truck its probably OK. Had an '05 come through that a professional musician was using to haul all his gear (lots of weight in amps and speakers, believe it or not). The crankshaft was literally snapped in the middle. We put a used engine in and he went his merry way. I believe he had under 200K on the clock when the engine went out, IIRC.
