Open backed G Wagen
Does or has Mercedes ever made something like a pick up truck version of the G Wagen?

Yes, but VERY rare in the states.
Last cabrio that was for sale was a 99 G500.... Sold for 99.5k.... O_o |
Those seem shorter than the ones I've seen. You're right. The bed on that one looks too short to be very useful.

You can find pick-up versions but i've never seen one being sold stateside (Considering how expensive it was to get them into the states originally i'm not surprised) However the import rules run on a rolling 25 year limit.... So you can expect to see more and more early 80s Gs stateside (Check ebay...people are already doing it with early Land Rover Defenders. http://img801.imageshack.us/img801/8306/60291245.jpg http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/792/33674383.jpg Oh and if it's capacity you want the Australian military has the G for you! http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/8...806x6cargo.jpg |

In all the years that i've been going to that sight i've never seen so many cabrios. I'm absolutely drooling over the 2000 cabrio classic that they have...annoyingly they never list prices so I don't even know if I could have afforded it even if I hadn't gotten screwed..... http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/5...00classic2.jpg |
One of those would be just the ticket for hauling stuff home from Home Depot!
