battery indicator light stay on

I left work today and realized that the battery indicator light had come on. It comes on when I stop and dims as I resume speed, but never really goes out. Manual talks about a busted v belt but its still on. Maybe getting loose? Alt. going bad? Help? Its a 99 ML 320.

Sounds like the voltage regulator is having the problem.
