1999 ML430 Sunroof Wind Deflector popping out

Each time we open the sunroof and the wind deflector pops up, the deflector itself pops loose from the two pivot points on the front underside of the sun roof opening that are designed to hold the deflector in place as it flips up.

Several years ago, I replaced the deflector, arms, and clips (the whole unit that the dealer sells). When I examine the setup now, I see all components in place and in good working order.

I have tried several time to clean the pivot points and push the arms of the wind deflector into those two points. The problem persists.

Has anyone had this problem and found a fix?

Thank you for any help,

Jim

1999 ML430 Sunroof Wind Deflector popping out

Previously I had to replace the wind deflector assembly because of a broken plastic "tab" that pushed through the end of the right side spring arm . As a result, there was nothing to hold the deflector on that side.

This time, all the pieces are present and nothing looks worn or broken.

The two "arms" on the front of the deflector itself pop out of the recesses that they push into.

The arms and the recesses don't really wear. Are you confident a new assembly will fix this?

Jim
