'99 ML430 center console/armrest switches...
Several weeks ago I went through an odyssey to have my gear recognition switch replaced. Finally the repair was done and the truck was drivable. Shortly after I got the truck back I noticed 2 things:
1. When driving, the rear window switches (on the back of the arm rest) were illuminating even though I didn't have the headlights or parking lights on. 2. None of the switches on the center unit (lock, window switches, defrost ect) will illuminate when the headlights/parking lights are switched on. My question is, did the mechanic not connect something correctly when he replaced the gear recognition switch and as a result the center buttons are not lighting up now? Also, is it normal for the rear window switches to light up even with the headlights/parking lights off? JD

No, that switch should only light up when the lights are ON.

So when he replaced the switch, were there electrical connections that had to be disconnected and then reconnected when the new switch was put in?
