98 ML320 Vehicle speed sensors

Okay Group,

The local inde mechanic narrowed my dash light/code problems to vehicle speed sensors. Question is: Will the DEALER's scan of of same prove the direct problem such as the precise speed sensor?

Just trying to justify the inde troubleshooting each sensor to the tune of $65 and hour as opposed to $125 at a dealer?!
Thanks much,

More than half of the M/Bs I scan will have wheel speed sensor codes without any associated problems. On the MLs it can be a harness problem, typicaly the left rear. It can also be the module failing to recognise the speed sensor signal. Additionally it can be an actual failed sensor, which is quite rare on the ML. You're going to need a competant tech to diagnose it, if that equals dealer then it will be cheaper than throwing parts at it.
