300gd 617-617a swap

Hello, I am swapping out the om-617 for a stripped om-617a short block in my 300gd. The crankshaft pulley from the g will not work due to the 617a crank being 1" longer. Does anyone who has done this swap know the part number for the crank pulley that worked for them. Or perhaps the vin./motor number of the donor they used. Best regards, Chris

I can't imagine a 617 with a one inch longer crank. I would think you are not looking at something correctly. But maybe it could be. Where do you pick up (measure) the extra inch? Do you have a picture? Also I have trouble grasping what you mean by a stripped om-617a short block. Stripped of what? A 617NA would be a non turbo charged engine. What is a 617a engine?

The 617a is the turbo version. There is an extra sprocket on the crank that drives a chain driven oil pump, that is why the crank is longer. There is a 1" spacer plate on the front of the block and the oil pan has a 1" extra lip on the front edge. By stripped block I mean I don't have any ancillary parts. So I am trying to utilize all the parts from the 617 na motor. It all should work except I need to figure out a different harmonic balancer/crank pulley set up to make it all work. Hoping another G owner who has done the swap can post a picture of theirs.

I am not familiar with the G models, But it should be easier to use 617a parts, then to try to fit NA parts to the 617a.
The water pump on a G should be in the same position then on the sedans, means you can use the pulleys of the turbo engine for the water pump and alternator.
If the power steering pump mount is similar to the sedan then you can use the aluminum power steering pump bracket from a turbo engine.
Do you have the balancing disk in front of the crank on your 617a, the on held on by the 27mm bolt?
This part can not be exchanged between engines without re balancing.
Again, I don't know how much space you have in the engine compartment of a G wagon.
Some pics would be nice.
