Ml320 crankshaft rear main seal leaking

Has anyone replaced this seal.My ml 320 is a 2002 with 102,000 but had been leaking for a little while.Looks like the transmission has to come out and so I had an Indy shop look $ 1353 .00 with tax wow. This job looks to hard to do on my back any suggestions will be appreciated as the trans needs to be removed.I have liked the looks of the ml but always felt from interior issues to now this it was an inferior product:mad:

I've seen more upper oil pan leaks than rear main leaks on M112 engines. Unfortunately, it's impossible to pinpoint the source of the leak with the transmission installed, and it's not that simple with the transmission removed since the oil ends up getting thrown all over.

I'd recommend adding some UV dye to the engine oil and looking over everything very carefully before going any further.

I THINK I have a rear main seal leak. Oil drips down and splashes on the hot exhaust and I get that burning oil smell. Is there just one oil pan gasket? I should try replacing that first to see if that stops the leak? Bids for the rear main seal are around $1000 here where I am.

Thanks,

M112 rear main seals are a common issue.
Should take about 9=10 hrs to do that job.
