98 ML Tranny Problem

Hi everyone, first post but long time fan of the forumn. so recently my ML began experiencing the dreaded will not shift out of first problem. car only goes about 30-40 tops with high rpms (3000=30mph) with no shift. i did end up having to go around 40 and it was almost redlining. this is not a limp mode problem i dont think, as it was my understanding that limp mode would not allow the RPMs to get that high.
i have seen many many posts on this but am still kind of lost. took it to the stealership to get codes read and cleared heres what they came back with:
ETC- code 13 component Y3/6n3(speed sensor) is faulty,
ETC-code 109 component Y3/6n3 (speed sensor) is sporadically faulty.

there are a bunch of other codes but none look serious. could someone give me some direction here...from my research ive been seeing that this problem usually is due to a faulty ETC, speed sensor, MAF or even as simple as a battery voltage problem. before i start chucking money at new parts (car has ~245K on it) i want to know how deep im getting in. previoulsy have replaced transfer case maybe ~200K.

Thanks in advance for any and all help

Most likely the conductor plate, about $500 if you do it yourself.

update

so i just switched the speed sesnor out (i have another working ML so i dont have to drop $ on parts until i know what the problem is). NOT a speed sensor issue. mbdoc how hard is it to replace the conductor plate and where is it located? im no gear head but i have always done my own repairs so im no novice either.

Ok so heres an update, i got the conductor plate and switched it out changed fluid put it all back together fired it up and still have the non shift problem. took it to pepboys to get the codes cleared and still no fix. i remember reading on a different thread that the P0175 code is generic and means that codes must be read from the tranny with a different(?) code reader and cleared.
Is this correct? If the source problem was the conductor plate and has been replaced am i still going to need to get to the dealer to clear the codes? My dealer is like 20 miles away and in limp mode that takes a long time.

Any help is greatly appreciated

generic code readers will not reset the transmission controller (aka EGS) - it requires a specific tool like star diagnosis or at least carsoft that can handshake and interrogate it.

Ask some transmisson shops or some european car dealer if they have the capability to work on mercedes transmissions. Once reset the transmission will shift. You can take it back to the dealer who scanned it for you to do it again
