Looking for a Sprinter-based RV this fall
 

Wife and I decided to buy a mid-sized RV, so we're looking for either a Class B (if we can sleep 3) or B+ Sprinter based RV. Here are some candidates:

Mileage and reliability are high on the list of desired features so I wanted to ask this forum for guidance. I've read elsewhere that Sprinters arrived in US in 2002 and that there are basically two models with the 'superior' T1N models being produced 2002 - 2006 (but that's just one article). The later models having more reliability issues (electronics, sensors, etc). Can this forum confirm this?!

I do make Bio Diesel myself (have a 50 gal processor) and plan on using it as an additive (20% -40% at most) so having an engine that tolerates it would be desirable.

I figured I'd look for something with about 50K miles on it that has maintenance history and looks well taken care of.

Does anyone know about the Salem-Kroger 4x4 system - the little info I found on expeditionportal was back from 2008 with little. The high lift does make me nervous about stability and maneuverability.

I am looking at them also, the sprinter style as I want to put my Harley in the back so I don't need a trailer, everything I have read and seen( got chased up I-70 from Denver to vail) they have good power and reliable and you can tow with them

I've heard good things too and I've seen them rip at 85mph such that I had trouble keeping up with my SUV.

Wondering if there are certain production years that are 'preferable' over others (for engine quality/reliability)?!

don't know but would like to, a friend is a mech for rv place and most he has worked on were 06 thru 09

my understanding with buying new there will be some glitches,but after 50,000 miles smooth sailing.I'm looking for one used.I'll more than likelly modify the engine for more power,and to run on used motor oils

Think this over carefully. If you'll be using the vehicle for travel, which most people do with an RV, finding places to work on Sprinters can be difficult. In theory you'd be able to choose from Mercedes, Dodge, and Freightliner dealers/shops, but in reality no one seems to want to claim the Sprinter. Only some MBZ dealers are authorized to work on them, or order parts. Mostly there seems to be a round-about type thing going on where Dodge says take it to MBZ, MBZ says take it to Dodge... A huge hassle when you're away from home. And of course, the coach part of it is all third party equipment.

For actual travel you're better off with a chassis that is known and supported all over the place (at least here in the US), like Ford and Chevy. Dealers and shops are everywhere, parts are available, most RV shops are fairly familiar with them.
