Stuck, 2002 Ml320 will not go over 30 MPH

My 2002 Ml320 will not go over 30 without pulling real hard on the engine. It starts to smoke and the dash reads oil-hi. The check engine light came on when the car jetked real hard. So I parked it and will have the codes read today. Do you think this is a transmission failure?

I also gave someone a jump about a day ago could this have caused a problem???
