2001 ML320 and the AAM

Hi!

We have a 2001 ML 320 with about 115,000 miles on it. The remote key fob is no longer working and our dealer told us that it's the AAM. They also warned that if it is not replaced, the vehicle may eventually not recognize the key in the ignition and might not start.

Is the AAM on this vehicle related to that issue? Or any other concerns related to not replacing the AAM? We'd like to get 2-3 more years from this vehicle and probably another 5000 miles total.

Any input welcome!

Thanks,
Lance
