Unimog 404 Om617a engine mount
 

Can anybody advise on making an engine mount to put an Om617a into a Unimog 404? This pic of someone else's custom mount and is all I'm working off of and I can't get ahold of them.

My main question is if the engine is really only mounted from the front drivers side corner? Or is there more not pictured? He's using the bolt holes from where the a/c compressor is supposed to go plus two more holes he drilled.

Oh, and that's my other issue. I started to drill the hole right below the vacuum pump and I popped into some cavity in the engine. I have no clue if that's an issue now. That's the other two pics. Please advise.

I'm in over my head, don't really know what's going on and am on a time crunch to get this Unimog running and on the road. Any and all help is appreciated, thanks a lot guys!

That mounting system would only sort of work if there is a mount on each side of the bell housing. On this type of system, the front mount really should be centered under the crank pulley. Think of it as a conventional left / right engine mount + centered trans mount only in reverse.

You probably drilled into the crankcase / timing chain area so put sealer on the threads to prevent an oil leak. Pull the vac pump and inspect the area, make sure the bolt you put in the new hole won't contact the timing chain. Also, inspect / change the vac pump bearings, they come apart and the balls can jam the timing chain.

Thanks for the input. It was a 12mm hole I drilled.I'm pretty sure I put the hole right through the outer slide rail under the timing chain but knicked it about 1/2 mm and started to drill through the other side of the outer slide rail but didn't pop through. I'm thinking maybe just thread a bolt 6mm deep? Which is just through the wall of the block. Maybe still run the timing chain the way it is? A picture of the timing chain is attached

I'd change the timing chain. Have a look in the diesel section for instructions to roll in a new one. If the engine has high miles, a new one is a good idea anyway.

Why...why were you drilling holes in the block? All the installs I’ve seen use the AC bracket holes, no drilling.
