R class towing
 

I’m trying to figure out why the towing capacity is so much lower on the R than the GL/ML. They share the same engine and transmission and all unibody cars. I have read that the R is based on an ML chassis. If anyone one has any experience towing with the R class I would love to hear about it.

I'm not familiar with either vehicle, but perhaps it has something to do with braking ability or handling when towing? The GL/ML is an SUV, the R is more like a minivan/crossover thing.
