ML320 tune up

Hi Folks!

My ML320 ('99) has about 73k miles on it now. Did the routine A and B checks and it's due for another 'B' check in about 2.5~3k miles. I notice that it's running a bit sluggish. Is it time for a major tune up or should I wait for the 100k mark?

Would be nice if the pro's like you can tell me what's best to do and what parts to replace, etc.

Appreciate the help.

Thanks,

Artie

The spark plugs are the "only" tune-up item that might not have been changed. The air filter & fuel filter should have been replaced at 60K!

The spark plugs on the 1999 models require service at OR before 100K miles OR 5 years.

ML320 Tune up

Thanks for the help M.B. Doc.

As regards the spark plugs, besides the one specified in the manual, are there other high performance plugs out in the market that can be used as replacement plugs to improve on performance? Would you by chance know of any? Or is it best to use the recommended Bosch plugs?

Thanks again.

Artie

Hi Artie-

I just had the "A" service on my 1999 ML 320 yesterday. One item you may want to have checked is the fuel filter. Apparently there was a service bulletin on the filter and mine was changed under warranty. They installed supplemenatal lines for a large capacity fuel filter with pressure regulator.

If you have not had this work completed, perhaps this is effecting your performance.

The OE plugs are long life Platimun plugs from either BERU or Bosch. Haven't seen any plugs that work better for these engines.
The Beru plugs are 14FGH-8DPURX2 & the Bosch ones are F8DPER.

That fuel filter mod will cost $200-$300 if your truck isn't covered under warranty.
