Navigation Voice Level
 

Today I brought my 2000 ML320 in for servicing and for a loaner I got a 2001 ML430. It only had 7 miles on it...WOOHOO!

Anyhow, I started playing with the navigation system and found out the voice prompts are at least 4 times louder then on my ML. I had to adjust the voice prompt volume down since it practically knocked me out of the drivers seat since it was so loud. Yet on my ML the voice prompts is set at its highest level and it doesn't come close to volume output as the ML430.

Only difference is that my ML is does not have BOSE, and the 430 does. So tomorow when I pick up my ML I will have it looked at. Also I noticed that the lettering on the MCS display appears to be clearer and not as fuzzy as mine.

Has anyone had any of these issues? Just wondering.

When in the NAV mode, touch the "VOICE" button. It will repeat the last command given. While the command is being repeated, adjust the volume using the normal volume knob.
Hard to believe the 2001 had 7 miles on it, maybe it was showing the trip odometer, not the total reading?

Thats exactly how I adjusted the voice level on the navigation system, by pressing the NAV VOICE and adjusting the volume up or down while it was speaking. Mine just doesn't get anywhere as loud as the loaner vehicle.

As for the 7 miles....its true!! It just went it to service that morning. It was a left over model. The window sticker, video tape introduction package was all on the back seat. I feel like I jsut got a new car....but I can't wait to get mine back!! New is nice, but I miss my own.

Mine went in for a shuddering in the transfer case and it was leaking from the front output. It currently has 22,000 miles on it.

Let me know if you have any ideas about the Nav voice, I had the MCS replaced at my last visit and the voice prompt audio level was the same as my original MCS so I thought it was normal until I got the loaner. Could the NAV drive be the problem?

How does the 430 compare to the 320 in power

Funny you should ask....after spending 2 days with the 430, I was happy to get my 320 back! The 430 sure sounds nice, pulls off the line with plenty of power, but it sure as heck uses a lot more gas! To be honest, I live in a very hilly area and never had a problem with the power of the 320 going up hills, sure the 430 does it with little less effort but if your not towing anything I'm not sure I would want the 430 for long term.

Also the 430 does everything abit more effortlessly using lower RPM's, but I still liked the 320 over it. I'm not a speed demon, and the ML isn't supposed to be a sports car....I have my 300CE-24 for speed and spirited driving.

Thats my opinion, and I am sure other people will think differently. I honestly feel that the 320 is more then adequate in the power department.

As for the NAV voice problem, the shop foreman is looking into it for me. He said it seems a bit low, but didn't have another 2000 to compare it too. Hopefully there is something that can be done to boost the voice prompting of the NAV unit.
