98 ML 320 Fuel Pump Relay Keeps on Burning
i have an ML 320 Model 1998 the relay fuel pump relay keeps on burning (4 times changed). if someone can help regarding the cause of this issue and how to solve it.
|
I changed the fuel pump and still the same problem persist.
can any one help me in this issue? |
Did you change the fuel filter(s) along with the pump as you were instructed in your other thread? If not, go back and do that before trying to troubleshoot further. A plugged fuel filter will make the pump draw high current.
|
No i did not change the Fuel Filter, by the way how can i test the current drawn by the PUMP?
i have to do this test to confirm that the relay HEAT is caused by the high current drawn by the fuel pump. |
I am thinking out loud Deseasel300, i am wondering if a plugged fuel filter can make the engine run? the engine start right away once i start it.
One more question how many fuel filter comes in this Model 1998 one or two. |
how many amps a normal pump should draw ?
|
When the fuel filter is partly plugged, the pressure between the pump and filter is higher than the pressure between the filter and engine. This causes the pump to draw more power.
With a return type system, there is always excess fuel returning to the tank. When a filter is clogging, this return fuel volume decreases. As long as there is enough fuel at then engine, it will run fine. |
how to test the amps drawn by the fuel pump with a voltmeter?
how many amps a normal pump a an unclogged fuel filter shall draw? |
How about listening to what other people are telling you? Maybe you'll get better answers if you open your ears. You've replaced the pump AND the relays. It isn't either one of those parts. Change the damn filter. Then you can move on to more in-depth diagnostics if you need to.
