Fram Sure Drain for Oil Change?
This is probably a stupid question but what the heck. Instead of using an oil extraction device or trough to change the oil on an ML320 has anyone tried a Fram Sure Drain? They don't make them specifically for Mercedes (hence the stupid question) but isn't there one that would fit on the 320? If one does fit is there a reason not to use it? I've had my 98 for about 6 months now and just found this baord a few days ago. Thanks for everything so far! - Jim

i'm sure...
I'm sure it will work if you found the right bolt size.. but don't forget.. your "regular car" eats 10w30 which costs maybe $6 in engine oil, your ml eats 15W40 synthetic which costs $80 so can you afford a drop? if it fails (all the oil drop out) can you afford no engine oil in you ml for a short period of time? plus there is a annoying bar directly under the drain plug, so engine oil will fly everywhere! you can always put a piece of cardboard thats what i do... I wouldn't recommend it...

I don't mind pulling the plug to do an oil change and still do occasionally, except on ML's. MB cautions about the oil running over various rubber components and softening the rubber.
I am not familiar with the product in question. If you intend on draining oil out of the drain plug, then fabricate something (cut up a plastic funnel or something) to make the oil run directly into the drain pan. Gilly |
Thanks
