Phone / MCS Operations

Hey All!

I just got the components to install the v60 into a 2000 ML. Everything went great and I can make and recieve phone calls from the MCS without any problems....BUT I do have some questions.

1) When a call comes in the radio/cd/tape will mute and the phone will ring. Though The display never changes and it doesnt show the caller ID. Also when the phone is ringing, the only function I have on the MCS is the "send" button. Nothing else works, not even "end". Should I be able to see the caller ID when the phone rings?

2) When there is a voice mail message waiting, should a prompt show up on the MCS?

I went by my dealer, and he ran the diagnostics on the MCS and phone no errors, and everything was coded properly for the phone.

Thanks in advance.

Not really sure on question 1 Kevin. All I know is that it's "supposed" to have a Startac in it, so it may be a compatablity issue between the MCS and phone.
On qustion 2, I believe this is up to the service provider. in some cases you may get a short audio mute for a voice mail notifier.
Come to think of it, the provider may also be the determining factor in regards to the MCS showing the caller ID as well.
Do you have caller ID if the phone is used outside of the truck? And do you get a voice mail notification if the phone is used outside of the truck?

Hey Gilly,

Thanks for the quick turn around....

The phone works fine outside of the truck in regards to caller id and voice mail notificaton.

Another little quirk I noticed this evening is when I do answer a call, the screen will change to saying "call" but the timer doesn't increment. It works fine when making a call.

I figure that maybe it is maybe a software issue between the MCS and PSE (figuring the phone goes through the PSE before the MCS). I did note that the PSE is "auto sensing" for timeport and v60.

The dealer I go to is quite helpful, but when it comes to these little details they get stumped. If its not possible to get the Phone and MCS to work properly, is there a compatibility problem with putting a new MCS (from a 01 or 02) into a MY2000? What are your thoughts on this?

Thanks

I wonder if you could come up with an MB Startac to plug in to the coil cord and see if that would work properly? Just a thought. Maybe someone at the dealership has one? Or you could even try a generic startac.

Incoming calls, etc. . . some tips

I have a 01ML320 with the Motorola Timeport.

An incoming call will mute the B*se system and I get a ringer tone, while the MCS displays "CALL". After I hit "Send" and answer the call, the "CALL" display clears and is replaced by the incoming call's phone number. It's a wierd feature - getting the caller ID info after answering. I would have much preferred, for obvious reasons, to get this info before, not after answering the call.

There is no indicator, at least with the Timeport setup, of any waiting voice mail. The only indication that I have a waiting voice mail message is that my Timeport beeps at me about every 30 seconds from the cradle - not the MCS / B*ose system, but the little beeper in the phone handset itself. It's pretty faint inside the armrest compartment but I've trained my ear to listen for it. Then I select a stored memory location and dial up my PCS provider (Sprint) voice mail number. There is no muting of the audio in the ML during the beep. If I pop the phone out of the cradle (but not disconnect the cord) and open it up, it will also show the voice mail waiting symbol.

Last anomaly - with a Timeport, you can store up to four numbers in 99 storage locations, but the MCS will only display the first number stored in each of the 99 locations. The workaround is if you want to dial one of the other 3 numbers stored, for example in slot # 3, location #28 under Fred Smith, simply pop the phone out of the cradle (keeping the coil cord connected), open it up, select the third number listed under Fred Smith that you want and press "TALK" on the phone. The phone will dial the number (and actually display it on the MCS). As soon as you flip the cover closed, the MCS takes over the call and you can continue the call using the built in mic and speakers. Press "END" on the MCS to terminate the call.

Hope this is useful.
