ML320 diagnostics and scanning

Hello, I am brand new to the community. I just recently purchased a '99 ML320. So far she runs like a champ. I was just curisous what brand(s) of diagnostic and scanning equipment would be a good reasonably purchased piece of equipment for an average DIY'r. I don't want to spend too much $$$ but I am willing to shell out a little money now in lieu of giving it to the dealer to analyze the first time the service engine light pops on.

Like most of you guys out there I am capable of fixing whatever is broken...the hard part is just figuring out what the heck needs replaced.

Any and all input is welcome and if you know of a particular site that you would recommend that sells this stuff throw that in as well.

Ahh....almost forgot. Where is a good place to purchase an oil extractor for doing my own oil changes?

Thanks in Advance!~

John

Diagnostic and Oil Suction device..

I don't recommend you to spend the money on a ob2 scanner, because its only useful when you have your "check engine light on".. they range from $100 to $8,000 .. When your car does get the check engine light on than you should go out to buy one.. average cost is $200US.. If you want the list of ob2 diagnostic codes for mercedes I can post it if you like, but it doesn't tell you much, if you get the code, post your code here.. than gilly can give you a tip!.. I have a oil suction device if you're interested.. first $50US gets it =)

If you have an Autozone nearby you can use theirs for free.

Thanks for the info Tabo. What brand would you recommend that is in the $200 range that you were referring to?

I suppose I also need to check and see if my local Auto Zone can do this as well...heck that is even better if they do!
